Short biography

Dr. Suzan Shahin is an Assistant Professor in the General Education Department/ College of Arts and Science, and the Head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center @ UAQU. Dr. Shahin assigned as the Head of Research and Development (July 2019 to December 2021), and contributed to the establishment of the research infrastructure at UAQU.

Dr. Shahin has a Ph.D. in Horticultural Science (2018) and a Master Degree in Environmental Sciences (2009), both obtained from the United Arab Emirates University. Dr. Shahin is an active researcher in multi-disciplines and a pioneer in the field of the UAE aromatic medicinal plants. Dr. Shahin has worked for more than 10 years in the field of research. She has several cited publications in national/international conference proceedings, and cited publications in prestigious journals with high impact factor in her field. Dr. Shahin is known for her initiatives related to the UAE indigenous desert plants; including her contribution to the First Emirati Landscape for an Educational Sector, located at the UAQU’s New Campus, and her contribution to the EXPO2020 Dubai landscape. Nationally, Dr. Shahin is an active member in two research clusters of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment – Abu Dhabi; including Climate Change and Public Health, and Food and Water Security. Internationally, Dr. Shahin is n member in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)/ Species Survival Commission (SSC)/ Medicinal Plant Specialist Group (MPSG).

The contributions of Dr. Shahin had been acknowledged by winning several awards; including the Graduate Student Award - UAEU (2017), Challenge for Innovation Award - UAEU (2016), Entrepreneurship Competition Award – UAEU (2015), Best Presenter Award at the Second International Conference on Modern Trends in Science, Engineering and Technology (2014), Research Project Award (First Place) at the 10th Annual Research Conference, UAEU (2009). Her research was also acknowledged by Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation (2016).

Dr. Shahin is a passionate educator applying new teaching methodologies, that had been recognized by supervising group of winning students. Additionally, Dr. Shahin is an active social media influencer contributing to university students’ awareness and guidance.
