Umm Al Quwain University Congratulates Dr. Mohammed lseidi on Winning Second Place in the “2024/2025 UAE Wellbeing Economy Award”.

04/16/2025

Umm Al Quwain University extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Mohammed Elseidi, Assistant Professor of Statistics and Data Science at the College of Arts and Sciences, for being shortlisted and awarded Second Place in the 2024/2025 "Wellbeing Economy Award," organized by Greenpeace MENA, Ajman University, and the UAE Universities Climate Network.

Dr. Elseidi remarked:

“My project focuses on constructing a Hybrid Well-Being Index for the United Arab Emirates. The main idea is straightforward: many nations rely on GDP as a measure of economic improvement, but GDP alone overlooks crucial aspects such as sustainability and social well-being. That’s why I combined three main indicators: the Sustainable Development Index (as a proxy for sustainability), the Human Development Index (as a proxy for social well-being), and the Financial Development Index (as a proxy for finance and economy). I selected these because they are well-established and have long-standing data availability in the UAE. I developed two versions of the Hybrid Index — one assuming equal importance for each indicator, and another using entropy weights to give more weight to those with greater variability. Then, I built a forecasting model to project the index for the next five years. Our findings show an improvement in well-being over the past two decades, with further progress expected in the near future.”
