05/01/2025

On Monday, April 29, 2025, the College of Law at Umm Al Quwain University organized a hands-on legal workshop titled “The Importance of Drafting a Civil Lawsuit Statement.” The session was led by Associate Professor Dr. Mohammad Samer Al-Qattan and brought together faculty members, undergraduate and postgraduate law students, as well as several alumni.

The workshop opened with a welcome speech by student Habiba Fares, who highlighted the role of practical academic activities in enhancing both the academic journey and future careers of students.

In the first segment, Dr. Al-Qattan engaged the audience with interactive questions exploring the purpose, structure, and legal foundations of a lawsuit statement. Participants took part in meaningful discussions, emphasizing the critical nature of precise legal drafting—comparing it to the craftsmanship of a goldsmith—due to its far-reaching impact from the moment it is filed, including pausing the statute of limitations and defining the scope of the legal dispute.

The second part of the workshop focused on application. Dr. Al-Qattan presented a real-world legal scenario and tasked participants with drafting an appropriate lawsuit statement. The activity saw active participation, with master's student Mohammad Ali Suleiman completing the official electronic form used by Dubai Courts, supported by contributions from other attendees.

The workshop concluded with positive feedback from participants, who praised the practical value of the session and expressed a strong interest in future events that blend legal theory with real-world practice to build essential professional skills.
