The Sociology Program at the College of Arts and Sciences at Umm Al Quwain University in collaboration with the Umm Al Quwain Businesswomen Council organized the Second Social Forum on Thursday 19 June 2025 under the theme Willpower Shapes the Future with People of Determination
The forum witnessed broad participation from people of determination their families researchers decision makers civil society members and those interested in the field reflecting a genuine spirit of partnership between academic institutions and the wider community
The forum opened with a welcoming speech delivered by Dr Ahmed Saqr Director of the Sociology Program who emphasized the role of the program in promoting the values of social empowerment and community inclusion
Her Excellency Aisha Al Litayem Chairwoman of the Umm Al Quwain Businesswomen Council and member of the Federal National Council for Umm Al Quwain presented the council’s initiatives and support programs for people of determination praising the strength and willpower shown by participants in various areas of life and work
The panel discussion featured Dr Khalid Al Salami Chairman of the Board of the Association of Families of People with Disabilities Ms Anoud Rashid Al Kindi Senior Social Specialist at the Umm Al Quwain Autism Center and Mr Mohammed Abdullah Qaed Board Member of Al Thiqa Club for the Disabled and Acting Executive Director
The session was moderated by Professor Osama Al Bari Sociology Professor at the College of Arts and Sciences who highlighted inspiring success stories of people of determination in achieving sustainable employment opportunities
The forum was attended by several notable figures including members of the Federal National Council academics students and professionals in the field The key topics discussed included the empowerment of people of determination and enhancing their community engagement the importance of integrating them into education and the labor market the role of centers supporting individuals with autism the significance of sports in developing talents and promoting inclusion
Following the forum an exhibition was held showcasing the services and privileges available to people of determination along with craft workshops led by participants and success stories of outstanding individuals among them was champion Mahra Salem a graduate of the College of Mass Communication
The forum concluded with several key recommendations including enhancing vocational training programs launching awareness campaigns under the slogan Willpower Shapes the Future encouraging seamless and active integration of people of determination into society ensuring suitable infrastructure strengthening effective partnerships between relevant entities and establishing a dedicated disability club in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain
