As part of its commitment to community engagement and reinforcing social responsibility under the initiatives of the UAE’s “Year of Community,” the Center for Continuing Education at Umm Al Quwain University has launched a unique awareness and training initiative titled "Towards Positive Change." The initiative is aimed at supporting the Correctional Institution under the General Command of the UAQ Police.

Proposed by Dr. Omnia Salem, Director of the Center for Continuing Education, and in collaboration with the management of the Correctional Institution in the emirate, the initiative includes a series of awareness and development workshops targeting inmates. Spanning two full months, the initiative seeks to make a tangible, positive impact on rehabilitation and societal reintegration.

The first training workshop was held on Wednesday, June 25, at the Correctional Institution in Umm Al Quwain, led by Dr. Omnia Salem. The session focused on "Distorted Thinking Patterns and Mechanisms for Developing Thought to Change Behavior," aiming to equip inmates with cognitive and behavioral tools that support self-reconstruction and the adoption of positive behaviors.

Brigadier Dr. Saif Zaid, Director of the Correctional Institution in Umm Al Quwain, expressed his deep appreciation for this purposeful community initiative. He praised the pioneering awareness role played by Umm Al Quwain University and its Center for Continuing Education in supporting community development efforts and strengthening partnerships with security and social institutions in the emirate.

Dr. Omnia Salem affirmed that this initiative reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to expanding its societal impact through quality educational and training programs aimed at various community groups. She noted that the upcoming workshops will address advanced topics in self-development, positive thinking, and decision-making.
