College of Law at Umm Al Quwain University Hosts Seminar on “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Crime”

On Tuesday, May 15, 2025, the College of Law at Umm Al Quwain University organized a scientific seminar titled “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Crime.” The event brought together faculty members, students, and legal professionals interested in the intersection of law and emerging technologies.

The seminar was attended by Dr. Hani Bakr, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, who emphasized in his opening remarks the significance of such academic initiatives in enhancing students’ awareness of legislative and technological developments. He reaffirmed the University’s ongoing support for scholarly and forward-thinking programs.

The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Saad Ali Ahmed Ramadan, Professor of Civil Law, who welcomed the attendees and highlighted that artificial intelligence now poses a significant challenge to legal systems—particularly within the field of criminal law—underscoring the need for continuous academic and legal discourse.

Professor Dr. Abdelghani Qassem Al-Shoaibi, Dean of the College of Law, delivered a presentation addressing how AI technologies are reshaping traditional concepts of crime and criminal liability. He stressed the urgency for national legal frameworks to keep pace with rapid technological advancements.

The seminar also featured a keynote lecture by Dr. Aya Moafi, Assistant Professor of Criminal Law at Damietta University in Egypt. Her presentation explored key AI-related crimes such as cybercrime, deepfakes, and data exploitation, while shedding light on the complex legal challenges of evidence and accountability in this evolving domain.

The event concluded with an engaging academic discussion, as students and attendees actively participated in a dynamic exchange that enriched their understanding of one of the most pressing legal issues of our time.
