Students from the College of Mass Communication at Umm Al Quwain University participated in the 12th edition of the international initiative conference, “My Food, My Therapy for Volunteering”, held this year under the theme “Volunteer and Innovation Expo”. The conference coincided with the 54th UAE National Day, the International Volunteer Day, and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, with participation from members of Al-Tariq Center for Rehabilitation and Autism.
Graduating students from the Public Relations program presented their research project on Sunday, December 7, titled “The Role of Health Media in Raising Awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder among Families and Society”. The project aimed to raise community awareness about the symptoms and causes of the disorder, ways to interact with affected individuals, and to highlight the role of families and relevant authorities in integrating children with autism into society.
During the conference, Umm Al Quwain University was honored in recognition of its efforts and significant role in serving community causes.
The graduation project involved six students: Marwa Salem, Asma Al Blooshi, Omar Basheer, Saud Ismail, Mohammed Al Rahoumi, and Youssef Hassan, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dalia Mohamed Hassan. The students carried out two activities as part of the project: the first at Al-Tariq Center for Rehabilitation and Autism, and the second as a panel discussion at Al Safia Council, in collaboration with Al-Tariq Center, the Special Education Support Center, and the Ajman Association for Social and Cultural Development.
