Information Technology Department Organizes Workshop on Cybersecurity and Safe Use of Technology.

The Information Technology Department at Umm Al Quwain University organized an awareness workshop titled “Cybersecurity and the Safe Use of Technology in the Workplace”, delivered by Ms. Maryam Al Raei, with the aim of enhancing employees’ security awareness and increasing their knowledge of methods for protecting systems and digital data.

The workshop addressed several key topics, most notably an introduction to the concept of cybersecurity and its importance in protecting systems and data from unauthorized access. It also reviewed common cyber risks such as weak passwords, suspicious links, and phishing methods, along with ways to prevent breaches and strengthen account security. In addition, the session highlighted the importance of creating strong passwords and using additional security measures, as well as verifying emails before interacting with them to avoid cyber fraud attempts.

The workshop also presented best practices for protecting devices and data within the workplace environment, such as locking devices when unattended, avoiding the sharing of sensitive information, and adhering to the secure and organized use of official email and institutional systems, contributing to improved efficiency and reduced technical risks.

The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of adhering to security procedures and avoiding common mistakes that may lead to account breaches, thereby fostering a secure and sustainable digital work environment within the University.

The workshop was attended by Dr. Hani Bakr, Vice Chancellor of the University, along with members of the academic and administrative staff.
