“Umm Al Quwain University Celebrates the Anniversary of Signing the “Declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution” by Late the Founding Father and His Brothers the Rulers”

Today, July 18, marks a historic day on the way to establishing the Union. On this day in 1971, the late founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his brothers the Rulers signed the Declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution while announcing the official name of the United Arab Emirates. 

This historic meeting constituted a great step in establishing the union of the United Arab Emirates on December 2 of the same year.

In celebration of this historic meeting, and in commemoration of this important anniversary, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, directed today, Thursday, to declare 18 July of each year as “Union Pledge Day”.

On this occasion, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said “18 July 1971 is one of the important days in UAE history, when the Declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution were signed, the its name was announced, and the solid foundation of the Union was laid on 2 December. “
