On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse, the Juvenile Awareness and Care Association, in collaboration with Umm Al Quwain University, organized an awareness workshop entitled “The Family: A Partner in Prevention.” The workshop was held as part of ongoing efforts to enhance community awareness of the vital role families play in protecting children from the dangers of drug abuse and behavioral deviance.
The workshop was attended by Dr. Hani Bakr, Vice Chancellor of Umm Al Quwain University, Dr. Haitham Al-Samarrai, Dean of the College of Mass Communication, and a number of academic and administrative staff members, reaffirming the University’s commitment to supporting awareness initiatives and community partnerships.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Jassim Khalil Mirza, Board Member of the Juvenile Awareness and Care Association. He addressed several awareness-focused topics, emphasizing the importance of family-based prevention as the first line of defense against drug abuse. He also highlighted the role of strengthening religious and moral values among children, as well as the importance of family dialogue in the early identification and treatment of behavioral and psychological issues.
Dr. Mirza also introduced the Association’s initiative to launch the “Best Awareness Poster” Competition on the dangers of addiction. The competition aims to encourage innovative and creative ideas through the use of modern technologies and artificial intelligence to raise awareness among young people.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Dr. Hani Bakr emphasized that this event is part of a series of joint initiatives between Umm Al Quwain University and the Juvenile Awareness and Care Association aimed at enhancing community awareness and unifying efforts to reduce the risks associated with drug abuse. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to serving the community and noted that this initiative is being implemented through students of the College of Mass Communication, particularly those enrolled in the Public Relations and New Media programs, in recognition of the College’s significant community role in supporting such awareness initiatives.
