As part of Dr. Hani Abdulrahman Bakr, Vice Chancellor of Umm Al Quwain University’s commitment to activating cooperation agreements between the University and local community institutions, and strengthening the University's role in serving the community and disseminating knowledge, an awareness workshop entitled “Your Gateway to Cybersecurity and Information Protection” was organized at the Umm Al Quwain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with the Umm Al Quwain Businesswomen Council, as part of the joint cooperation agreements between the three entities.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Fatima Mohammed Khalaf, Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity at Umm Al Quwain University. She discussed key cybersecurity concepts, the importance of enhancing digital awareness among community members, and the main cyber threats facing users, including phishing, social engineering, and ransomware. She also highlighted best practices for protecting data and digital identities and promoting the safe use of modern technologies.
The workshop also included a presentation of several real-life cases and practical applications aimed at raising awareness of ways to prevent cyber threats. Practical guidance was provided on securing personal accounts, managing passwords, and safely handling electronic messages and links, contributing to the development of a more aware and secure digital culture.
The workshop witnessed strong attendance and active engagement from participants, who enriched the session with questions and discussions on key cybersecurity challenges in the digital environment. This reflected the importance of such initiatives in raising awareness and strengthening cybersecurity across the community.
The workshop is part of a series of community initiatives implemented by Umm Al Quwain University in collaboration with the Umm Al Quwain Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Umm Al Quwain Businesswomen Council, with the aim of leveraging academic expertise to serve the community, strengthening institutional partnerships, and contributing to building a more aware and secure digital society, in line with the United Arab Emirates’ vision for supporting digital transformation and fostering a culture of cybersecurity.
