Admission Requirements

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Law or any other directly related specialisation from an accredited university recognised by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) – Ministry of Education – United Arab Emirates.

  • Students holding a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in a specialisation related to Law from an accredited institution recognised by the CAA may be exempted based on the evaluation of the College of Law Council and in line with their specialisation.

  • Bachelor’s GPA Requirements:
    • CGPA 2.5 or higher (out of 4.0): direct admission.
    • CGPA below 2.5 and ≥ 2.0: must complete three preparatory courses with a GPA of at least 3.0.

           *  Note: Degrees obtained outside the UAE require equivalency from the Ministry of Education.

  • Applicants must provide proof of English language proficiency according to one of the following certificates or their CAA-approved equivalents:

Exemptions from English Language Requirements:

- Any other proficiency test approved by the CAA.

- Students continuing from a Bachelor’s program who graduated less than one year ago.

- Completing an English preparatory course delivered online or on campus by the University.


 

 

Graduation Requirements
  1. The student must complete a total of 33 credit hours (mandatory and elective courses) plus the thesis, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0.
  2. Successful defence of the thesis, which equals nine credit hours, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 for the thesis.
  3. Thesis registration is permitted only after completing all mandatory courses in the program, and only one elective course may be registered during the thesis period.
  4. No mandatory courses may be registered during intensive semesters.
  5. The minimum period to complete the thesis is nine months from the date of registration.
  6. The College Council approves the thesis plan and appoints the supervisor.
  7. All administrative procedures required at admission must be completed.
  8. The student must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0 for the program.
  9. The minimum study duration is one and a half years, and the maximum is four years.
  10. For the purpose of improving the GPA, the student may repeat up to two courses during the study period.

The Master's in Public Law is delivered according to the credit-hour system adopted by Umm Al Quwain University, which requires students’ on-campus physical attendance and active participation in learning activities. All students follow a full-time study mode.

Thesis

The student prepares a “Master’s Thesis” on a topics of public law, its rules,and issues, written in Arabic, with an English abstract.. A supervisor is appointed from the relevant department, and when appropriate, a co-supervisor may be appointed from outside the College of Law, depending on the thesis topic. Thesis registration is permitted only after successful completion of the mandatory courses (18 credit hours).
